Hi there, I am Bob Smith, owner of Bob Smith Tools LLC and founder of The purpose behind this website is to provide real and in depth reviews of random orbit sanders as well as writing informative and easy to understand how to guides for various home improvement tasks.

Are you a DIY enthusiast? Do you have a skill that could help someone who is new to DIY?

If so this scholarship program is just right for you. We started this program in order to offer financial help to students.

  • Up to $1000 being offered in financial aid
  • Any full time student can apply to this scholarship
  • Up to 3 scholarships will be granted depending on number of submissions

We are looking for anyone that has a keen interest in DIY, or has skills to share that would be helpful to someone who is new to DIY. Some of the skills that we are looking for include –

  • Plumbing Repair
  • Woodworking
  • Engineering
  • Appliance Repair
  • Furniture restoration
  • Painting and Decorating
  • Plastering
  • General household improvement
  • Sanding
  • Wooden floor care

If you have passion, knowledge or experience in any of the above areas, or any other DIY skills useful to the upkeep of a modern home then we would like you to put that experience in writing in the form of a 1000 word how-to guide.

The guide should be aimed at homeowners with little to no experience in the topic being discussed. The guide should be very clear and include simple actionable steps that anyone interested in DIY can follow.

How to Apply

  • Write a 1000+ word guide on your chosen DIY topic
  • Provide full details of your study program including course name, college and length of study
  • Write a 200 word summary of why you are interested in this scholarship program
  • Tell us how your current education is financed
  • Let us know about any other financial aid you have received whilst studying

Application Guidelines

  • You must be a full time student
  • Only one application allowed per student
  • Closing date for the scholarship program is 11/08/2018
  • All applications must be sent to
  • All applications must come from your official college email address

What we are looking for in winning submissions

  • Comprehensive write-up of the chosen topic
  • Minimum of 1000 words but there is no maximum length (Keep this in mind)
  • Article must contain actionable tips and not just general chit-chat
  • Well researched
  • Citations and quotes should be used where neccesary
  • Images or diagrams should be included to explain important points in the guide
